Your Makeup Housekeeping Guide
March 29, 2022Part of maintaining a good skincare regimen is to be mindful of your makeup regimen as well. After all, both are not only applied but absorbed by your face!
So, we’re sharing with you makeup housekeeping tips, including cleaning and safekeeping, to keep your skin and beauty practices in top shape!
What was the single best piece of skincare advice you’ve kept with you?
“My grandmother told me very early on: “Never go to bed with a dirty face and never leave home or go to bed without a crèmed face.” We all have our moments when we feel too exhausted to cleanse our face! But think about what you carry on your face from the whole day (especially if you live in a big city or wear makeup.) Well, all these pollutants will not only suffocate your skin at night, they will populate your pillowcase and happily retoxify your skin the next day…”

Cleaning Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes should be deep cleaned with your favorite brush cleaner or a mild antibacterial dish detergent cleanser with warm water once a week to prevent germs and optimize brush usability. Foundation, powder, and eyeliner brushes should be cleaned daily or after each use in order to keep maintenance and cleanliness.
Daily Cleanser: Use a gentle clarifying shampoo or daily cleanser with warm water
Run your brushes under running water first to break apart makeup residue. Mix a couple drops of cleanser into a bowl of lukewarm water and swirl your brushes for a light lather. Finally, rinse thoroughly under cold water or until the water runs clear.
DIY Deep Cleanser: Combine 2 parts natural/basic dish soap to 1.5 parts extra virgin olive oil
Swirl your brushes in the mixture and wipe off any excess on a paper towel. Next, run them under warm water while swirling them into your palm to thoroughly clean them off. Continue to do so till the water runs clear. Once they are rinsed, squeeze into a paper towel and blot them dry.
Tip: Always dry your brushes facing downwards or on a cloth so as to not ruin the glue on the handle or bristles.
